1956-57 Detroit Red Wings # 19 Murray Costello and Billy McNeil Game Worn Red Wool Lippman jersey - With all tags - 20+ Repairs
This amazing survivor from the 1956-57 NHL season is in fabulous all original condition. The color is as stunning as when it left the Olympia over 60 years ago. This was the first year for numbers on the sleeves of Detroit Red Wing jerseys. The number 19 is sewn above the wide white stripe and into the shoulder yoke. Subsequent years would see the design of the jersey change so that the stripe was a little lower and the number would rest between the stripe and shoulder yoke.
Murray Costello only played 3 games for the Red Wings this 1956-57 season while Rookie Billy McNeil played 64 games scoring 5 goals and 10 assists. Neither player would compete in the playoffs.
This jersey is one of the nicest red wool Red Wing jerseys from the 1950's that will ever be seen. Book the Red Wings Olympia exhibit and witness this jersey along with all the other items in the Olympia collection.
