1965-66 NHL Detroit Red Wings #9 Gordie Howe Game Worn Jersey
Recycled to 1966-69 WCHL Flin Flon Bombers #9 Reggie Leach
This jersey tells the story of how most all of the NHL jerseys from the 1950-60's were handed down to affiliate teams or minor league teams. In this case, Jimmy Skinner, who coached the Detroit Red Wings in the 1950's and remained involved with the team throughout the 60's, obtained both a set of white and red jerseys from the Detroit Red Wings and presented them to the Flin Flon Bombers of the WCHL to be used from 1966-1969.
The jersey has several Detroit Red Wings style team repairs in the form of cross stitched wool darning and many repairs in the form of thread stitching from its time with the Flin Flon Bombers. The Red Wings crest was removed and replaced with the Flin Flon Bombers crest. The back #9 and sleeve numbers are all original and remain sewn on to the jersey.
The jersey is photo matched to Gordie Howe in a game from February 3rd, 1966.
