One of the most remarkable and historical hockey sweaters I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. This WHL jersey was worn by Guyle Fielder, the all time leading point getter in WHL professional hockey history with over 2000 points. Only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe have also achieved that feat. The jersey itself is remarkable with the incredible chain stitched Totem crest on the front and the fact that Seattle Totems jerseys from this era just don’t seem to be seen anywhere. Let alone, the fact that this survivor was worn by Mr. Seattle Hockey himself, Guyle Fielder. And if that wasn’t enough, the jersey was worn in two full WHL Championship seasons of 1966-67 and 1967-68. This is identified by the style of the jersey and also by the fact that Fielder was the Assistant Captain in 1966-67 and the Captain in 1967-68. The jersey sports the Captain “C” on the left chest and the stitching of the previous Assistant “A” is clearly visible under the current “C” location. The jersey is photo referenced to images from the 1966-67 season when he was wearing the “A”. Guyle Fielder was known as an incredible stick handler, passer and skater. He had three invitations to NHL teams, the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. He was encouraged to play a different style of play by the NHL teams involving a more “dump and chase” style which didn’t fit his strength which was carrying the puck into the zone and setting up the forwards, much like Wayne Gretzky did with that entry into the zone and quick cut-back to create time and space.
This is quite possibly the single most important professional minor league hockey jersey in existence. Guyle Fielder finished his professional hockey career in 1972-73 after 23 years.
