Based on details and measurements on this jersey, most notably the crest, I can pin point this jersey to the 1970-72 period. For example the crest increased in size starting in the 1970-71 season and remained a particular size through the 1971-72 season. The LOA for this jersey will outline all the details pertaining to the nuances of this jersey that are consistent with those only exhibited on the black road jerseys of the Boston Bruins from 1970-72.
Reggie Leach is the only player to wear #27 for the Boston Bruins in both the 1970/71 and 1971/72 seasons. Commencing at the start of the 1970-71 season the NHL changed its format for home and away jerseys and thus the home team would wear their light coloured jerseys and their dark jerseys on the road. In the case of the Boston Bruins, they began wearing their black jerseys on the road commencing in the 1970-71 NHL season.
Reggie Leach plays his first road game for the Boston Bruins on January 27th, 1971. (He played his first ever game at home, January 23rd vs Chicago). He plays a total of 13 games on the road in the 1970-71 season. 9 regular season games and 3 playoff games. The Bruins lost to the Montreal Canadiens 4 games to 3 in the first round of the playoffs on the back of the goaltending of Ken Dryden. As for the 1971-72 season, Leach plays a total of 26 Road games. He was traded to the California Seasls on February 23, 1972 in time to play against his former team, the Bruins that very evening. If the trade was not bad enough for Reggie Leach, the outcome of that game made things sting a little more. Leading 6-1 in the second period the Seals squandered the lead, losing 8-6 to the Bruins. And of course the Bruins went on to win the Stanley Cup that season.
Every game played by Leach in this jersey has been documented and is listed in the accompanying LOA.
