1979/80 - 1980/81 NHL Chicago Black Hawks #19
Harold Phillipoff - 1979/80
Ron Sedlbauer - 1979/80 - 1980/81
Florent Robidoux - 1980/81
This Coane Brand, heavy dureen Chicago Black Hawks jersey was worn for two complete seasons, 1979/80 - 1980/81 and worn by three different players. This is how the Chicago Black Hawks did things back in the day. They were notorious for utilizing jerseys from one year to the next and sometimes using jerseys from several years previous. The jersey shows great wear, but has held up extremely well due to the heavy duty Coane dureen fabric used by the Black Hawks during these two seasons. There are 4 team repairs, heavy black slashes, board burns, sweat and equipment stains.
I have documented the games to which each of the players wore this jersey.
On March 13, 1979, Harold Phillipoff was traded to Chicago by Atlanta with Pat Ribble, Greg Fox, Tom Lysiak and Miles Zaharko for Ivan Boldirev, Phil Russell and Darcy Rota. One of the largest and significant trades in NHL history. Phillipoff was a 6'3" heavyweight who racked up 280 PIMS with the 1974-75 WCHL New Westminster Bruins. He had 128 and 113 PIMs with the Atlanta Flames before the trade. He wore #19 when he got to Chicago and continued to wear #19 in the following 1979/80 season until he got traded on Dec 21, 1979 with Dave Logan to the Vancouver Canucks for Ron Sedlbauer.
Harold Phillipoff played the following home games in this jersey in the 1979/80 season:
October 24, 1979 vs WPG. W 4-0
October 28, 1979 vs Boston. L 1-4. 20 PIMS. Fought Terry O'Reilly 2X
October 31, 1979 vs Buff. T 0-0
Ron Sedlbauer played his first game after the trade at home Dec 23, 1979. He played a total of 45 regular season games (13 G, 10 A) and 7 playoff games (1G, 1A) that season for the Chicago Black Hawks wearing this #19 jersey for all home games. This jersey has been photo matched to a January 1980 game vs Detroit.
He then continues to wear this very same #19 in the 1980/81 season as the Chicago Black Hawks did not get new jerseys until the following 1981-82 season. As a result of the wear sustained to the back numbers, alterations were made to most all of the jerseys in the form of new numbers having been put on the backs. The new numbers have a sheen to the black twill material whereas the previous numbers had a flat tone to the black. The sleeve numbers however were usually not re-newed, as was the case with this jersey. Sedlbauer played 35 games with Chicago this season until he gets traded to Toronto for cash on February 18, 1981.
Florent Robidoux, who had signed as a free agent with Chicago on October 20, 1979 but did not play with the team until the 1980-81 season, started the 1980/81 season wearing #25. He switched to #19 for only 3 games at the end of the season, 2 away games in the red jersey and 1 home game in which he wore this #19 jersey. Remarkably the jersey has been photo matched to this very game from March 29, 1981 vs Detroit. A 4-3 win.
This jersey will come with a comprehensive and details Letter of Authenticity from Global Vintage Sports Memorabilia Inc, including all the details outlined above and photo matches.
