1960's Alex Delvecchio game worn skates
These CCM Tacks (Tackleberry) skates were worn by NHL Detroit Red Wing Hall of Fame player, Alex Delvecchio in the 1960's. Images of Alex with the 1964 NHL All Star team show him wearing skates with the # 10 painted on the heel. Also another photo of the late 1968-69 era vs Gerry Cheevers and the Bruins show him with a painted # 10 on the skates. Another photo of him vs Johnny Bucyk and the Bruins shows the # 10 on his skates but it is more of a sticker style.
NHL players wore CCM Tacks almost exclusively during the original six period of the 1960's. The metal tubes connecting the boot to the blade is a throwback to the equipment worn by players before the modern comfort worn by today's players.
This pair of skates originated from a collection of game used equipment belonging to a long time employee of the Detroit Olympia Stadium.
