October 2, 1923 Original NHL Toronto St. Patricks Letter
This amazing letter was hand written by NHL Toronto St. Pats Treasurer, Percy Hambly to WCHL Edmonton Eskimos GM/Coach/Owner, Ken MacKenzie. The letter is written on incredible Toronto St. Pats letter head with a team photo of the recent Stanley Cup Champion (World's Champions) Toronto St. Pats. The green collar motif surrounding the photo is symbolic of the team's colours. All of the team's executives are noted in small scrolls bordering the team photo.
- President - Fred Hambly
- Secretary - Chas. Querrie
- Vice Pres. - Paul Ciceri
- Treasurer - Percy Hambly
The body of the letter pertains to Percy Hambly's thoughts regarding Ken MacKenzie's inquiry on potential exhibition games between the NHL Toronto St.Pats and the WCHL Edmonton Eskimos. He also responds to a previous discussion regarding potential player transactions. "We are not in the market for a forward but could do with a defense man. Yours Truly, Perc. Hambly"
This letter was part of the amazing collection of artifacts pertaining to Ken MacKenzie. They were discovered 10 years ago in a Storage Tote in Ontario. There was one other St. Patricks letter that I am keeping as part of the Exhibit collection. As a result, I am willing to sell this letter. It is the only other one I have ever seen. It is in Mint condition.
It is very interesting that in both the letters, Percy Hambly is negotiating on behalf of the Toronto St. Pats. The Society for International Hockey Research indicates that Charles Querrie was the Coach and GM of the 1923-24 Toronto St. Pats. On the letterhead he is noted as being the Secretary.
