1970-71 International Hockey League TOLEDO HORNETS # 4 Ivan Prediger Game Worn Jersey
This jersey was worn in the inaugural season of the IHL Toledo Hornets by # 4, Ivan Prediger. The jersey is photo matched to a publicity photo of Ivan Prediger.
The jersey is made of a light weight dureen, gold with black and white trim. I measures 26" at the chest. No tagging is present in the jersey. Other Toledo Hornets jerseys from the following 3 years indicate the jerseys were made by the Athletic Supply Company with a thin tag in the collar. This jersey was likely manufactured by the same company.
The "Hornet" crest is sewn to the front below the V-neck collar. There are multiple team repairs to the sleeves front and back of the jersey. Many of these are original team repairs prepared in either darned wool or thread. The material of the jersey is thread bare in some areas which suggests that the jersey was recycled for use multiple times, likely for subsequent training camps and/or practice. There is a split in the V-neck collar at the base.
Upon reviewing this jersey style in comparison with the style used by the team in subsequent years following the 1970-71 season, I conclude that this jersey was introduced to the team in the 1970-71 season. Images of players and team photos from 1971-74 show that the "hornet" crest had a more upright position on the front, while the crest on the 1970-71 inaugural season was more horizontal in position.
The player who wore # 4 for the 1970-71 IHL Toledo Hornets is Ivan Prediger. He plays 50 games for the team that season. In fact a publicity photo from the 1970-71 season indicates a photo match to this jersey. The nuances of the crest match up perfectly.
The jersey will come with a 5 page Letter of Authenticity from Global Vintage Sports Memorabilia Inc. including the photo match.
