1979-80 Montreal Canadiens # 33 Richard Sevigny
Game Worn Rookie Jersey - Home White
Worn in December 31, 1979 Super Series Match vs the Soviet Red Army which was a re-match of sorts to the December 31, 1975 game.
This Maska Ultrafil jersey was worn by goaltender Richard Sevigny during the 1979-80 NHL season for the Montreal Canadiens. Sevigny would play 11 games in this Rookie season. However, he would also get the start in the much anticipated December 31, 1979 match against the Team Red Army (Russia). This game had all the anticipation and excitement of the 1975 New Years Eve game. As a part of the Super Series "80", the Red Army would start the exhibition series against the NHL with this classic game vs the Montreal Canadiens to close out an amazing decade for the Canadiens team. This game pitted the four time Stanley Cup Champion Canadiens against the four-time Soviet Champion, Red Army. The Canadiens would go on to win this contest 4-2.
The video of this game shows conclusively that this jersey was in fact worn in that game. The Maska jerseys of this year had a small Maska label on the outer hem. This label was screened on to both the front an back. the images of Sevigny in this game show the unique nuances of the numbers on the right sleeve as well as the position of the nameplate and letters in relation to the back numbers. The numbers on these jerseys were made of a soft twill material similar to the off white material used for the name bar.
The jersey shows tremendous wear in the form of scattered puck marks on the font of the jersey and on both sleeves. Heavy sweat stains and equipment stains are present not the outer elbows. There is red goal post transfer on both elbows and a scrape on the left elbow stitched repair on the left shoulder.
The garter belt fight strap is sewn on to a 4 X 4" square with patch which is sewn into the lower back. There are two small un-repaired holes in the right arm.
Also a freeze fram image from the 1979 Super Series game shows a light puck mark to the left of the front crest (player's left) that matches to a light mark on the jersey.
The Maska Superfil Made in Canada tag is sewn into the collar. The jersey measures to a 48 at the chest. The all original name bar with "SEVIGNY" sewn on to the bar, is sewn on to the jersey and shows no evidence of ever having been removed or changed. These all original namer goalie jerseys from the 70's are extremely rare.
The jersey will come with full authentication from Global Vintage Sports Memorabilia Inc.
